DR. MATTHEW DECICCO

Matt graduated from Charles Sturt University in late 2018 with his degree in Veterinary Science and a BSc in Biology and immediately joined Gippsland Veterinary Group as a graduate veterinarian working on both farm animals and small companion animals.

Matt grew up in Kyabram, Victoria and worked on a Holstein Dairy farm throughout his studies. In his spare time Matt can be found playing a variety of sports and keeping fit while enjoying the great Gippsland outdoors. He has a keen interest in cattle and dairy.

DR. TOM GILHEANY

Tom graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2010 and started as a mixed new graduate at the Tarwin Vet Group. He intended to stay for a couple of years but never managed to leave. He travelled and worked in Alaska for a year in 2015 but returned with his wife Den (also a vet in the practice) to South Gippsland in 2016.

Tom and Den live in Buffalo with their three daughters Muriel, Margie and Minnie. Tom mainly focuses on production animal medicine but you may also see him working in our companion animal clinics.

He has been a director of GVG since 2017 and chair of the board since 2024. He is a qualified Repro Right Advisor, graduate of the AICD and obtained his memberships in Dairy Medicine (2017) and Veterinary Pharmacology (2021) through the ANZCVS.

DR. KATE JOHNSON

Kate joined GVG in 2022, becoming part of the farm and small animal veterinary teams. After growing up in rural NSW, Kate completed her veterinary degree in Sydney in 2015.

Following 3 years of mixed practice in Tasmania, she spent 3 years in the UK working, travelling and studying for a small animal diagnostic imaging certificate.

Outside of work Kate’s interests include hiking, photography and travel.

DR. JOSIE TOWNSEND

Veterinarian
BSc DVM

Josie graduated with her DVM from the University of Melbourne at the end of 2019 and joined Gippsland Veterinary Group as a Mixed Animal Veterinarian in the New Year of 2020 after completing a placement with us, during her studies.

During her studies Josie volunteered at the Kyneton sales yards and local farms - further consolidating her experience around cattle and sheep.

In her spare time Josie has been involved in basketball and netball and enjoys hiking in Gippsland's scenic surrounds.
