ROUTINE & PREVENTIVE CARE

KEEPING PETS HEALTHY FOR LIFE

Routine and preventive care is the key to keeping your pet healthy, happy and by your side for as many years as possible. At Gippsland Veterinary Group, we believe in proactive, personalised healthcare; spotting problems early and supporting your pet’s well-being at every stage of life.

From puppy and kitten checks to senior pet health monitoring, our experienced team works with you to create a tailored wellness plan to suit your pet’s lifestyle, breed and individual needs.

WHAT OUR ROUTINE & PREVENTIVE CARE SERVICE INVOLVES

Our services go beyond vaccinations.  We provide a full package of preventive care to catch problems early and keep your pet thriving.

We aim to make every visit as relaxed and stress-free as possible, keeping your pet comfortable while gathering the information we need to care for them.
SIGNS YOUR PET MAY BENEFIT FROM A WELLNESS CHECK

SIGNS YOUR PET MAY BENEFIT FROM A WELLNESS CHECK

Even if your pet seems healthy, there are times when a check-up is especially valuable:

  • Annual vaccination due
  • Bad breath or changes in eating habits
  • Weight changes or reduced activity
  • Increased thirst or urination
  • Skin irritation, hair loss or persistent scratching
  • Lumps, bumps or swellings
  • Behavioural changes, such as increased anxiety or confusion in older pets

These may indicate early signs of disease, catching them early often means better outcomes and simpler treatments.

PUPPY AND KITTEN CARE

The first months of life are critical for setting your pet up for lifelong health. Our puppy and kitten programmes include:

  • Initial health assessment to check for congenital conditions
  • Vaccinations to protect against common infectious diseases
  • Parasite control plan tailored to age and weight
  • Nutritional advice for healthy growth and development
  • Behaviour and training support, including our Puppy School program for dogs

Starting with the right care helps your young pet grow into a confident, well-adjusted adult.

VACCINATIONS

Vaccinations protect pets from potentially fatal diseases. We follow current veterinary guidelines and will tailor your pet’s vaccination schedule to their risk factors.

  • Dogs - typically vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and kennel cough
  • Cats - typically vaccinated against feline enteritis, cat flu viruses and sometimes feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) depending on risk factors

We'll discuss your pet's lifestyle, environment and any travel plans to determine the most appropriate vaccination plan.

Each vaccination appointment includes a full health check.

PARASITE PREVENTION

Parasites can cause discomfort, illness and even serious disease.  Importantly, some common dog and cat parasites can also affect people too (zoonotic).  We provide:

  • Flea and tick prevention - year-round protection recommended
  • Worming - covering intestinal worms and heartworm where relevant
  • Tailored schedules - based on your pet’s species, age and lifestyle

Our team can help you choose the right product and dosage for your pet.

NUTRITION AND WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

Appropriate nutrition is fundamental to health. We can:

  • Recommend diets tailored to your pet’s age, breed and medical needs
  • Monitor weight and body condition to avoid obesity-related health issues
  • Support pets with special dietary requirements, such as renal or joint care diets

We stock a range of premium pet foods and prescription diets, with advice from trained veterinary nurses.

SENIOR PET HEALTH

SENIOR PET HEALTH

As pets age, their risk of developing conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, kidney disease and cognitive decline increases. We offer:

  • Individually tailored health check schedules to monitor changes
  • Blood and urine testing to detect early signs of organ disease
  • Mobility assessments and pain management plans
  • Advice on diet, exercise and home adaptations for comfort and safety

Early detection means we can manage these conditions effectively and maintain quality of life for longer.
